ANova

HGEcBjJU.jpg

The goals of ANova are to provide access to computer science education and make opportunities more equitable for the youth of all backgrounds. We go to local high schools and middle schools to enrich students in the field of computer science and offer many other resources such as college-essay reviews, campus tours, major showcase student panels, and technical workshops. We also host ANova hacks, a 24-hour hackathon for high school students with little to no programming experience.

BEAM

Berkeley Engineers and Mentors (BEAM) fuses science education with mentorship by leading weekly hands-on science and engineering lessons at local elementary and middle schools. Being on BEAM I attended my site and inspired the youth of all backgrounds on the wonderful applications of STEM. Furthermore, I worked alongside my site group to develop a program that sorts members of BEAM into different groups based on a variety of preferences (spanish-speaking, time-availability, ability to drive, etc).

Tech Gen

I am the Founder and President of Tech Gen Inc (2017), a non-profit dedicated to providing computer education for underserved youth in the community. My vision is to help those who are less privileged in gaining a better understanding of using computer technologies. I believe that technology education in young children provides them with an early advantage in school and this leads to better outcomes in secondary education and beyond. Kids from underprivileged backgrounds have an inherent disadvantage in terms of access and I am working to change that in my community.

I and other Tech Gen volunteers volunteered at 2 Boys and Girls Club centers in Anaheim (2017-2019). We conducted training in computer programming (Java) and also introduce electronics using Arduino kits and Sphero robots. We also have a 3-D printer at the center and we have a lot of fun creating stuff with this exciting technology.

STEMpowerment

I was the acting treasurer for this non-profit for over 2 years where we tutored over 40 students at the Boys and Girls Club of Brea. I helped manage funds for the organization and also helped develop curriculum to spark interest in STEM-related fields in the underserved youth of the local community.

Invited Speaker: City of Placentia

I was given the wonderful opportunity to be a student speaker at the 30th Annual Veterans Day Observance Ceremony.  This was a truly amazing experience to talk with the veterans present at the ceremony and to deliver a speech to hundreds of families at the Placentia Library.  It was a privilege to be a part of this tribute to the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.
